The gusher in the Gulf Coast. An opinion on the oil leak. How do you make a bad situation worse?

Now that millions of gallons of oil are spreading all over the Gulf Coast destroying animals, natural habitats, employment, enjoyment, and killed eleven souls - How do you throw a match on it?
If you are the BP executive you tell everyone you wish you “could just get your life back”. And if you are some illiterate wanna be political aficionado you make it all about the incompetence of the President.
Perspective and Information are the principles lacking in this case.
It is necessary to invoke perspective when bad situations occur to give us right relation on a macrocosmic level. I am sure that the BP guy has it tough, but not as tough as those dealing with all the aforementioned issues regarding this devastating event. Perspective lets us see the bigger picture and provides right relation to the word around us.
Knowledge is power. Lack of Information makes us feel powerless. When we are powerless we react in irrational ways. The President has been unfairly mucked with the sludge of this situation. He is being perceived as not hard enough, not emotional enough, not doing enough. I for one am grateful that he is remaining stable and systematic with this not being the only problem going on in this country and in the world. I am glad that he has worked from behind the scenes to make BP continue to work in a prudent manner, that he has not egotistically taken over the situation and forced the full brunt of the economic cost on to the taxpayer.
We must stay positive and productive at times like these. We are responsible for ourselves, that is we are “able to respond”. We can pray for the lost souls. We can pray for all things Mother Nature. We can pray for the executives and engineers at BP. We can Pray for the D.C. think tanks. We can pray for the poor people of the Gulf Coast area. We can send supplies, well wishes, cards of hope, and other tangible needs to the people devastated by this or their surviving relatives.
What spiritual boom can you enact to stop the spread of the issues related to the oil spill?
What can you do to extinguish the negative flames arisen from this catastrophic dilemma?

Tiger Woods: T.I.G.E.R.
T.I.G.E.R.
Why Tiger is still important, if not more important, as a role model and inspirational entity.
Given all that has gone on, or gone wrong as it were, with Tiger recently - it is important to remember two things. One, that Tiger is human. And two, that Tiger is an entertainer - not your God or your Parents.
I speak from extreme experience on this matter as a child of a father who was unfaithful. I was a about 12 or 13 when I realized that my dad was having extramarital affairs. He, as it turns, out had been cheating on my mom since a year after they had been married, and this was some 20 years into their marriage. I felt feelings that no kid should have to feel at that age and they ran the gambit from betrayal and sadness to very hateful and murderous idealizations. One night, at the age of 14, I stood over my dad with a can of gasoline and a Zippo lighter trying to decide if it was a good idea to burn him alive. After a period of time visiting with a psychologist and a lot of years suffering from addiction, I was compelled to come to grips with the anger at the core of my soul.
I hate to be the master of the obvious here, but Tiger is just a human and all that comes with that. He is a man. Man is bestowed with free will. As a result he is capable of good things and bad things. We all are. I have often led a double life. Around the age of 18 I was wrangling with my addiction and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. I was a responsible worker and face for a popular fortune 500 company and suffering from the ravages of alcoholism. I would go over the top, off the clock, to insure the best experience of a customer and drive home with a drink in body and in hand. We all are capable of doing good and bad at the same time.
Tiger is an entertainer. He is a professional golfer. I imagine that there are times he plays golf even when he doesn’t want to, or that he refuses to play because a particular tournament does not support his strategic positioning. He is expected to tow the PGA line and represent the social mores of millions of fans regardless of his true wishes. You and I go where we want, do what we want, and live how we want because we are your average “Joe”. I can spew venom about some hot topic in the news or some politician I can’t stand because we are just everyday people. Tiger must play a part. Shakespeare writes, “All the world’s a stage, and all the people merely players”. The “Tigers” of the world are on the stage for us and playing the part because we put them there.
Now, more so than before late 2009, we should be focusing on the good that Tiger is for us in our society. We must pause before casting stones and admonishing his defects of character. We must appreciate what he has brought to light about our society as a whole and what you are facing personally. Now. We must untether ourselves from this illness and focus on the solution not the pollution.

T is for TENACIOUS - stubbornly unyielding
Not being an avid golf fan until recently I am unable to site with specificity the occasions on which Tiger has pulled off seemingly insurmountable deficits to produce a win. His career speaks for itself and stands alone in the accomplishments of individual competition. His vision for himself is that of success. He has fought back to win tournaments, fought back from serious injury, and he will fight back from this off course drama. We should be inspired on all accounts to claim this principle for ourselves. We are capable of our own greatness - and don’t stop until you get it.
I is for INTENSITY - exceptionally great concentration, power, force, or feeling
I am not a Tiger fan. I respect and appreciate the exceptionally great concentration and sustained passion that is necessary to compete, and reign supreme, at the level that Tiger does. The power of his presence on the course is palpable. You and I are welcome to this same great level of achievement in our lives if we are as committed. I fight my self-diagnosed A.D.D. and wondrous daydreaming every day on my projects, but when I am working with a troubled teen or sick addict - my intensity is unmatched even by Tiger.
G is for GUARDED - marked by or given to caution
This is less about fear and more about surveying of all possible outcomes before acting or deciding. He is steady in his emotion throughout the tournament during each 18 hole outing. In my opinion he has taken a calculated approach to his infidelity. You and I have the metaphorical luxury of being jovial about one shot and throwing a club over the next. We are not faced with unfathomable financial implications by just doing what we want when faced with personal issues. I do believe that if I am calculated and use forethought about my behavior, I am likely to enjoy the same benefits as Woods.
E is for ERR - to make a mistake or be incorrect
I was going to blow off severity and chose Epicurean, but I owe it to you to provide value. Foretold is forewarned - and no one makes this point better than Mahatma Gandhi,”It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.” The value of this time in Tiger Woods’ life is yet unknown to him and us - it depends on what is done with this knowledge, which leads to the last point.
R is for RESILIENCE - the ability to recover quickly from illness, change, or misfortune
In my company we have linked ourselves to a wonderful operating philosophy, ‘Let go - or get dragged’. If you have ever been water skiing, you know the painful necessity of this statement. Small issue or life changing affair(s) - it works!
The good news for me, and my dad for that matter, is that I didn’t kill him on that foggy teenage night. I was able to understand my dad, reconcile my differences for his choices, and make amends for my actions toward him through all those years. It was 18 years later while my dad lay suffering on his death bed, that I was able to advocate for his peaceful exit strategy from this life. I pushed for a respectful and serene death so that his suffering would not be elongated. I miss my dad. There should never be a thing so bad that you are not gifted with the same broken heart that I have for my dad’s passing. In the end, he was a man. He was capable of good and bad things - and in a lifetime he provided more good than bad.
Tiger Woods is at best human and at worst human. He is a valued professional entertainer that inspires golfers everywhere. He gives hope and escape to young and old alike. Through his fortunes, he is able to provide great charitable deeds.
In the end Tiger Woods is important because he is you and he is me. He is a mirror image of our positive self and negative self. Each one of us is capable of great achievement and we are all capable hurting those close to us. When I see the negative in Tiger, I am tethered to my lower self. I am blocked by the self-righteous condemnation of another - blocked from experiencing the good and trapped by my own trespasses or defects. For me, it is more important to see the good in someone like Tiger because it is the mirror image of good in me and the inspiration to keep striving to be a greater: person, golfer, friend, writer, coach and so on.

Temptation
Temptation and other common phrases like it, and references to religious icons are just a way to remove accountability and responsibility from the person.
I am not without my temptations, but they are chosen - not third party or outside influences that i dont have control over.
Temptation is defined by websters dictionary as "1 : the act of tempting or the state of being tempted especially to evil : enticement 2 : something tempting : a cause or occasion of enticement".
I argue that it is not "cause" but rather effect.
If i am sitting on the couch and the thought comes that i want a cookie, well it is all over but the chewing, because i have already allowed the want to be 'planted'. Once I want for something then the inevitable effect is that i will follow through with action (action being exemplified by thought, word, action, deed, or otherwise.)
Want, desire, lust and the such, are the cause.
Temptation is the effect of my thinking.
In many areas of my life I have removed temptation by not allowing myself to find it acceptable to want for these things.
In some areas of my life, which i still hope to grow out of or away from, I still allow temptation to exist because I am not ready to let go of these thoughts or obsessions.
I am responsible for the way I think, feel, behave, act, etc.
I have found literature and people that have helped me adapt this seemingly rigid way of life, but I say to you that it is neither rigid nor the implied states of difficult or boring. It is on the contrary very freeing and exciting, allowing me to live a more full and true life.
I suggest you explore "the sermon on the mount" by emmett fox.
I give you permission to be free of this soul stamping mode of operation that is a lie and spirit quelcher - Temptation.
And I charge you with the responsibility of taking on this way of life to make your soul shine and therefore free others to do the same.

Capen for Senate - RIP Edward Kennedy
I am running for U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late great Kennedy.
This is not a joke.
I am prepared to accept the seat, and I am prepared to not be seated - but I will not lose because I am striving through action.
Most people are shocked and laugh, some say I am crazy.
Leo Buscaglia said one time." I like when they say that I am crazy - it gives me lots of room to play with".
I am not crazy.
I am passionate.
I think outside the box.
But I am not crazy.
When the news of Senator Kennedy's passing came onto my homepage, I began to cry.
A great man had died.
I watched the coverage of his last trip "Off Cape" and I so wanted to be a part of the gathering masses. It was the opening day of preseason for soccer and I kept waiting to be able to go and wait on the highway. The time came and I had to make my way to soccer. As I approached the highway I could see people gathered at the off ramp. When I made my way onto the highway I could see people lining the highway on both sides. I began to cry again.
I was amazed by the outpouring of support.
I made my way from exit 6 to exit 12, more and more people pulled over to pay their respects.
I wanted to be a part of it.
I called and confirmed that I would be late for opening day of soccer and coach was understanding.
I parked at the local stores and hopped the fence to be on the side of the highway.
Ten minutes later came the caravan of buses and cars and the vehicle with "The Lion".
I cried again.
On Thursday November 12th I was checking out a cover of the boston news and I felt like something was missing from this candidate pool.
This is a special seat - not because it is a U.S. Senate seat.
This is a special seat because it is the seat of Edward Kennedy, literally.
This is a three year seat - the balance of his last election.
He was a visionary and a champion for great and little things.
He was talking about health care before it was popular.
What should we be talking about now , that is over the horizon?
What cause should we be lifting up right now, that may not be popular?
I may be lots of things , but I am not crazy.
I am passionate.
I am looking over the horizon.

finish the story
i was just talking with a kid that works in the restaurant upstairs from my business, "The Twenty: Tea and Spirit". he told me that he just had 3 friends die in a car accident on route 95 over the fourth of july weekend this 2009.
at first i was sad for him for losing 3 friends.
in short order after learning that they were probably out drinking and driving after a visit to a night club in providence, i was mad.
i think anheuser and the other alcohol companies should have to tell the whole story in a commercial.
the night starts out getting dressed, the people arrive at the bar. they begin to embibe and get jovial and jubiliant. they pull out of the parking lot revelling in their great time at the club.
then BLAM they carreen off the road and into a big stone igniting the car and flaming bodies wrangle themselves out of the car. dont cut right to the body bag or funeral, show the mangled scorched bodies.
this should be the law if you want to advertise alcohol.
