Temptation

Temptation and other common phrases like it, and references to religious icons are just a way to remove accountability and responsibility from the person.

I am not without my temptations, but they are chosen - not third party or outside influences that i dont have control over.

Temptation is defined by websters dictionary as "1 : the act of tempting or the state of being tempted especially to evil : enticement 2 : something tempting : a cause or occasion of enticement".

I argue that it is not "cause" but rather effect.

If i am sitting on the couch and the thought comes that i want a cookie, well it is all over but the chewing, because i have already allowed the want to be 'planted'. Once I want for something then the inevitable effect is that i will follow through with action (action being exemplified by thought, word, action, deed, or otherwise.)

Want, desire, lust and the such, are the cause.

Temptation is the effect of my thinking.

In many areas of my life I have removed temptation by not allowing myself to find it acceptable to want for these things.

In some areas of my life, which i still hope to grow out of or away from, I still allow temptation to exist because I am not ready to let go of these thoughts or obsessions.

I am responsible for the way I think, feel, behave, act, etc.

I have found literature and people that have helped me adapt this seemingly rigid way of life, but I say to you that it is neither rigid nor the implied states of difficult or boring. It is on the contrary very freeing and exciting, allowing me to live a more full and true life.

I suggest you explore "the sermon on the mount" by emmett fox.

I give you permission to be free of this soul stamping mode of operation that is a lie and spirit quelcher - Temptation.

And I charge you with the responsibility of taking on this way of life to make your soul shine and therefore free others to do the same.

Capen for Senate - RIP Edward Kennedy

I am running for U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late great Kennedy.
This is not a joke.
I am prepared to accept the seat, and I am prepared to not be seated - but I will not lose because I am striving through action.
Most people are shocked and laugh, some say I am crazy.
Leo Buscaglia said one time." I like when they say that I am crazy - it gives me lots of room to play with".
I am not crazy.
I am passionate.
I think outside the box.
But I am not crazy.

When the news of Senator Kennedy's passing came onto my homepage, I began to cry.
A great man had died.
I watched the coverage of his last trip "Off Cape" and I so wanted to be a part of the gathering masses. It was the opening day of preseason for soccer and I kept waiting to be able to go and wait on the highway. The time came and I had to make my way to soccer. As I approached the highway I could see people gathered at the off ramp. When I made my way onto the highway I could see people lining the highway on both sides. I began to cry again.
I was amazed by the outpouring of support.
I made my way from exit 6 to exit 12, more and more people pulled over to pay their respects.
I wanted to be a part of it.
I called and confirmed that I would be late for opening day of soccer and coach was understanding.
I parked at the local stores and hopped the fence to be on the side of the highway.
Ten minutes later came the caravan of buses and cars and the vehicle with "The Lion".
I cried again.

On Thursday November 12th I was checking out a cover of the boston news and I felt like something was missing from this candidate pool.

This is a special seat - not because it is a U.S. Senate seat.
This is a special seat because it is the seat of Edward Kennedy, literally.
This is a three year seat - the balance of his last election.

He was a visionary and a champion for great and little things.
He was talking about health care before it was popular.

What should we be talking about now , that is over the horizon?
What cause should we be lifting up right now, that may not be popular?

I may be lots of things , but I am not crazy.
I am passionate.
I am looking over the horizon.

finish the story

i was just talking with a kid that works in the restaurant upstairs from my business, "The Twenty: Tea and Spirit". he told me that he just had 3 friends die in a car accident on route 95 over the fourth of july weekend this 2009.
at first i was sad for him for losing 3 friends.
in short order after learning that they were probably out drinking and driving after a visit to a night club in providence, i was mad.
i think anheuser and the other alcohol companies should have to tell the whole story in a commercial.
the night starts out getting dressed, the people arrive at the bar. they begin to embibe and get jovial and jubiliant. they pull out of the parking lot revelling in their great time at the club.
then BLAM they carreen off the road and into a big stone igniting the car and flaming bodies wrangle themselves out of the car. dont cut right to the body bag or funeral, show the mangled scorched bodies.
this should be the law if you want to advertise alcohol.

powerless ness is a mess by jeffrey capen author of the principles office

i am all set with people being powerless. what a waste of time and energy!
nothing makes your life such a mess like proclaiming powerless.
you can always do something, at the very least you can pray and if you can pray you can do something and then you are not powerless.
if you find yourself in some sort of trouble in life, you must empower yourself and engage in some form of action. start with prayer, and from there you can find other options or choices to take action to feel better about what ever is going on.

Sharing is caring, but not if you give more than you can or should.

Some would argue that it is always right to share and in the end it may be the right thing to do.

But sometimes it would be unwise to share. If you are in financial hardship or something of that nature and you have others needs to consider - then sharing may not be appropriate.

One can share time, money, lend an ear, advice, clothes, food, ad infinitum.

So this is what i will have forward to looking back at when it is all said and done?

i am starting this blog to help promote by forthcoming book , The Principles Office: A Living Dictionary, in print for June 2009.

The book is a daily meditation book.
It is filled with principles of successful living. One for everyday of the year and one for each month as well.
Each day has a word (principle), a definition, an example of how i have used it (or not as sometimes was the revelation) or some person in my life that i think exemplifies the word, and a suggestion or direction for the day.
I wrote about principles but i am not a principal on them.

Portions of the book will go toward our first nonprofit long term sober living for younger males in recovery. We hope to sell 100,000 copies this year so that we can get busy helping those who need it. please consider being a part of this success story.
